Iconic

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed the faint chirping of birdsong in the early mornings this past week? This always signals to me that spring is, indeed, on its way! The next sign I'll be looking for is the blooming of the cherry blossom trees! ;)
I've been working with some iconic imagery this week... tried and true favourites that hopefully strike a chord with some of you.
A wind-up watch, chain and fob...
Wise old owls...
Horses...
Hearts... <3
And religious medals, including an actual vintage icon from around the WWII era!
If you haven't already done so, please enter to win these Valetine earrings by sharing my blog with someone you love, then simply comment here by telling me who you chose and why you love them.
The drawing will be held on February 5, and the winner will be announced no later than February 7.
Thank you for visiting and please listen carefully for the birdsong. ;)

Time Honoured

With Christmas around the corner, I realized that the new year isn't far behind, and this got me to thinking about the passage of time.
'The days go by slowly, but the years fast', as the saying goes.
It does seem like the older I get, the more time speeds up.
And I wanted to honour not only the time each of us has to enjoy the present and live in the moment,
but also to reflect on years gone by,
the people and things that came before us.
It is my hope that in repurposing vintage jewelry and findings, I am doing my small part to honour and preserve this history.
Who wore these old time pieces that kept track of moments and minutes so long ago?
Who was this man and woman, and what did they know about life in the 19th century that we may never understand?
Could they have ever imagined that one day, more than a hundred years after their pictures were taken, someone would be blogging about them? And would they have approved?

Making a Spectacle of Myself

Bonjour, mes amis! Do you remember the adorable pair of Victorian spectacles I found at the flea market last weekend? Well, I couldn't wait to turn them into a necklace, so - voila! - here is the finished piece. I added an early 1900s gold-plated bow pin and vintage watch face to some sterling filigree chain, and threw in a few tiny pearls and rubies for good measure. Now available in my Etsy shoppe, this piece is perfect for your favourite Steampunk-loving friend. Please stay tuned next time for a custom Marie Antoinette necklace... ooh, la, la! Merci. :)
